Arctic Energy Alliance Luncheon

The Fort Simpson Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon on September 4, 2014.  Our guest speaker was Margaret Mahon from the Arctic Energy Alliance (AEA) Yellowknife office.  The agenda looked like this:

Commercial Energy Management Services offered by Arctic Energy Alliances (overview)

  • Commercial Energy Conservation & Efficiency Program (CECEP)
  • Yardstick Energy Audits – analysis of 2 years of energy  and water consumption data & compared with national energy standards – no cost

Energy saving devices of interest to business operators:

  • IPLC’s (Intelligent Parking Lot Controllers) – energy-saving outlet controllers
  • Heating controls – of importance to B & B’s, hotel, etc.
  • Energy Monitoring – kilowatt meters & Energy Monitors … explain how they work & electrician needed for bigger monitor
  • Air Conditioning – best units for EE & maintenance, portable units?, …
 EE/EC building retrofits (such as the upgrades done at The Willows)
  • pellet boilers (e.g. Mackenzie Rest Inn)
  • solar electricity & hot water

Margaret Mahon was very knowledgeable, and talked about the various programs available to both businesses and residents.  Lindsay Waugh, FSCC Vice President was attending and spoke about the various retrofits and upgrades to the Village of Fort Simpson (VOFS) buildings.

DID YOU KNOW…..that you can use a KILOWATT METER to check out just how much energy a specific item in your business uses.  If you can plug it in the wall, you can can plug it into a kilowatt meter.  You can borrow one at the Arctic Energy Alliance

DID YOU KNOW….that a number of businesses have put in energy efficient retrofits and new installations that are already showing a savings on their utility costs?

DID YOU KNOW…..that there are Intelligent Parking Lot Controllers to help you save money on car plug in costs this winter?  See attached information for details.

DID YOU KNOW……that the VOFS has a project in the works to reduce the utilities at the rec centre, water treatment sewage plant and other facilities through a variety of energy saving upgrades?
