image001YELLOWKNIFE (April 22, 2014) – Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment David Ramsay congratulates the recently elected NWT Chamber of Commerce President,  Board of Directors and its 2014 Business Award winners.

Allen Stanzell was elected as the new Chamber president during its Annual General Meeting and Business Conference held at the beginning of April in Yellowknife.

“The interests of the NWT business community will be well-served by Mr. Stanzell’s leadership style and abilities to nurture and advance new partnerships and opportunities,” said Minister Ramsay. Minister Ramsay also recognizes the contributions of the NWT Chamber’s past-president Kathy Gray.

“Ms. Gray was a notable advocate and voice for the Chamber’s membership,” said Minister Ramsay. “Under her leadership the NWT Chamber provided its support for devolution and was a valuable partner in advancing the completion of the Economic Opportunities Strategy.”

Two NWT awards were also presented by the NWT Chamber. The Book Cellar received the NWT Business of the Year Award and Allison Camenzulli of Kellett Communications received NWT Business Person of the Year.

The NWT Chamber of Commerce and the GNWT are working together with the NWT Association of Communities, Northern Aboriginal Business Association and Canada’s Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) to implement the Economic Opportunities Strategy. Following their elections, the Chamber’s executive met with representatives of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment to advance recommended actions to establish and facilitate opportunities for dialogue between government and the NWT’s business community.
