Please join us to take part in the development of the Northwest Territories Agriculture Strategy

The GNWT Economic Opportunities Strategy has identified the agriculture sector in the Northwest Territories as a sector in which the potential for investment, economic growth, employment and income opportunities exist for northerners. In NWT-wide engagements that supported the drafting of the Economic Opportunities Strategy, interest in advancing agriculture initiatives was prominent in virtually all communities.

The GNWT Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment has therefore embarked on  a project to develop an Agriculture Strategy through which specific opportunities for growth in the agricultural sector will be identified. This public engagement is one of several regional meetings being held throughout NWT to inform development of the strategy. As part of this initiative, regional meetings are being organized and held in Fort Simpson (May 11), Hay River (May 12), Fort Smith (May 13), Norman Wells (May 19), Fort Good Hope (May 20), Inuvik (May 21) and Yellowknife (May 26).

Please join us for a facilitated dialogue about the growth of the NWT agriculture sector, focussing on the industry’s current and future strengths, challenges and opportunities.  We would like to hear about agricultural opportunities that you would like to pursue and how you think that government and industry could support your efforts.

If you are unable to make one of these dates but would nonetheless like to be involved in development of the strategy, or for any questions about the public engagements, please contact Christine Wenman at 867-445-4127.
