WSCC NAOSH Week Events

Every year, the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) celebrates North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) week.  Find out what we’re doing this year to celebrate! Need more information or want to know how you can help, contact us!

Iqaluit Safety Street
May 6 & 7
May 6 – Safety Street Game Show
Location: TBA, 11:30 am – 2:00 pm

Come out and participate in the WSCC’s Safety Game Show and correctly answer questions to lead your team to victory! Register teams of four by contacting Gwen Mahaney. BBQ lunch provided by the Northern Territories Federation of Labour (NTFL).
May 7 – Story Time
Join us at the Iqaluit library to hear safety stories and colour safety activity sheets! Spot the hazards on your colouring sheet and get a Safe T. Sam doll. Submit your finished colouring sheets into our Colouring Contest (see Youth Challenge).

Inuvik Safety Street
Tuesday, May 7
 
Midnight Sun Recreational Facility, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm
Join us for a day of safety! Participate in a Safety Program Development and Occupational Health and Safety Committee Awareness session in the morning, enjoy lunch courtesy of the NTFL, hear guest speakers in the afternoon, and mingle at a meet-and-greet and trade show at the end of the day. Door prizes drawn throughout the afternoon!

Yellowknife Safety Street
Friday, May 10
 
Yellowknife City Hall, 11:55 am – 1:00 pm
We have an exciting timed challenge planned to put your safety skills to the test. Register your team of four people to go through the Safety Street circuit and compete for great prizes. Visit our Safety School safety education learning stations. Stay for lunch, provided by the NTFL.

Video Challenge – Use the NAOSH 2013 theme Are You as Safe as You Think? to create a short 1-2 minute video. Submit your video by email, or send a copy to the WSCC’s Yellowknife office. Win an iPad Mini, or a gift card of equivalent value!
Writing Challenge – Visit Don’t Be A Number and Share Your Story using the NAOSH theme, Are You as Safe as You Think?. Tell us a true story about a safe or unsafe experience you’ve had and help spread the word about being safe! Win great gift cards!
Colouring Contest
Colour one of the WSCC’s colouring pages (One Life LoganFire House, Safety House, Restaurant House, or School House) and identify the hazards to win great prizes!
One Life Logan Tournament
Play One Life Logan during NAOSH Week, May 5-11. The highest score that week in each of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut wins an iPod!
